Maybe we can share software we use that we think is useful or comes handy. My current Top 3:

  1. wserverxkit.sourceforge.net [wserverxkit.sourceforge.net] installs apache2, mysql4l, php5 with phpmyadmin
  2. cutedgesystems.com/weblog/Tutorials/PostfixEnabler.html [cutedgesystems.com/weblog/Tutorials/PostfixEnabler.html] eanbles postfix on Panther (10.3) to have your own mailserver.
  3. monkeyfood.com/software/moreInternet/ [monkeyfood.com/software/moreInternet/] is a Prefs Pane to help to set your default applications, such as Firefox in stead of Safari.

Here are a few off the top of my head

1. MacJournal the best Journal / Blogging software I've ever used. The author is going to make it a commercial app soon, so grab current version now.

2. Quicksilver It changed the way I used computers forever. Allows you to search for any file of app on your hard drive and create a chain of actions on it. Very nice.

3. Pages and KeyNote - Quite simply the slickest Word processor and presentation software I've ever seen. Worth twice the $79 I paid.

4. iPhoto Library Manager Allows you to have multiple iPhoto Libraries anywhere on any volume, even encrypted ones.

5. Text Wrangler The replacement for BBedit lite. Very full featured. Especially since its big brother cost about as much as my ipod.

6. Audion fills in the gaps where iTunes left off. Great all around audio utility.

There are others like GeekTool and ShapeShifter, but I'll stop here so others can chime in. ;-)

^^ Cocktail is demo software, and requires you do purchase it after the tenth use. My objective, when I got my Mac, was to spend almost nothing on software, and instead look for F/OSS stuff. For the most part, I have been very successful.

I've stumbled upon PearPC (pearpc.sourceforge.net [pearpc.sourceforge.net]), that emulates PowerPC on x86 (yes, I'd like OSX on my home PC too!). Does anyone know a better one (this one's not final and kind of veeeeeerrrry slow)
